My home or business has never been burglarized, I live in a “safe” neighborhood. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard this remark. Let’s be honest, most people don’t “think” their home will be burglarized, its unfortunate but sometimes, it just happens. Working in the locksmith and safe industry I have heard many stories of the aftermath of someone losing their valuables at the hands of a thief, whether it was someone they thought they could trust, or it being a burglary.
Did you know, according to Forbes, on average over 1 MILLION home burglaries are reported in the USA every year. About 65% of the victims know their burglar. Thankfully, Florida is one of the lowest in the country for home invasions, but it still happens, and though you can’t prevent it, you can make it harder for the thief. Below are a few recommendations to help secure your home, your family, and your valuables.
1.Home Surveillance System
This doesn’t have to be a $5,000 system, there are more cost-effective options available.
2. Yard sign stating your home is protected by an alarm company/camera
3. Purchase a Safe and store your valuables inside of it
If you own the home, bolt the safe down. That is a service we offer, and most Safe Companies offer at the time of install.
4. Ensure you lock your home and car anytime you are not in it
5. New homeowners should have their home rekeyed
Contact your local locksmith and have that done immediately, that way YOU have peace of mind knowing, who has a working key.
These are only a few suggestions that most people do not think about. Someone once said, you can’t keep all bad guys out, but you can make their “job” harder.
